“It was unfortunate. That was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a large group of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, our fans. The entire stadium was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the gesture was completely unintentional, occurring amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I just put up the incorrect digit,” he noted. “It was accidentally performed. I’m not kidding. Should you call it unplanned, you can. But it got resolved pretty quick.”
League Precedent for Owner Penalties
This incident isn’t the first time an NFL owner has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Recent examples involve:
